Wild and chaotic, Christmas shopping is not for the faint-hearted. Tis’ the season for the high street to be hectic with festive shoppers; the big retailers going all out with Christmas cut-price deals and the online giants making all your festive favourites just a click away, but where are the independents? Meet the festive market proving that big isn’t always best, shining a light on Birmingham’s thriving independent retailers.

Birmingham’s very own festive hangout is back for 2019, City Social will transform Suffolk St Queensway underpass into a winter wonderland filled with festive cheer. With not a single bratwurst in sight, this isn’t your typical Christmas market. City Social is bringing together local independent traders from across the region to put the spotlight on Birmingham’s booming small businesses; giving local independents a platform to showcase their offering to Birmingham’s festive shoppers.

There’s no need to get your tinsel in a tangle because City Social has made shopping local a whole lot easier. Meet the makers making waves across the region, specialising in everything from delicious food and drink, to bespoke gifts and decorations…

Give Santa and his elves a good run for their money with present-sourcing and gift-hunting this Christmas. From craft ales to bespoke Brummie memorabilia, join Gifts Galore, Festive Retail, and Memorabilia Gifts as they show off the very best of the region’s Christmas crafts.

When it comes to the Yuletide-treat-eating front, City Social has you covered. Described as your favourite roast dinner slapped between two slices of bread, Roastie Toastie is back for another season at City Social. Combining the nation’s most-loved dinner with everyone’s favourite quick dish, last year saw the team serve up 150 litres of Little Nan’s special gravy and over 1,000 roast potatoes! Award-winning Birmingham restaurant Asha’s will also be serving up their signature dishes to City Social party-goers including their signature Christmassy chillgarlic chicken, lamb biryani and sparkling samosa chat.

Worcester steakhouse Ounce is also bringing its succulent steaks ‘ounce’ and about, giving festive foodies the chance to order their cut of choice by the ounce – yep, by the ounce! And you can enjoy your fillet with a glass of fizz at the bar, as City Social is serving up traditional tipples including mulled cider and hot Pimms, and not forgetting the Baileys hot chocolate (complete with cream, marshmallows and sprinkles of course!).

Not only is City Social putting the region’s independents on the map, the market also has announced a jam-packed scheduled of performances set to showcase home-grown Brummie Talent! Busking Battles, written and presented by Phil Oldershaw, has joined forces with SLAM (Supporting Local Artists & Musicians) and will see the city’s hottest musicians pitted against each other in a bid to be crowned the best busker in town!
