Play your part in our £1 Million Appeal and help raise funds for the Breast Cancer Unit at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Along with the QE Hospital Charity, Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer aims to raise £1 million by June 2015 to fund fantastic new services at the hospital.
We’ve already helped fund some much-needed medical equipment, to help create a ‘centre of excellence’ at the QE. This includes a Mobile Mammogram Trailer to allow up to ten women an hour to be x-rayed in their local area; an Ultra Sound Scanner for diagnosing breast disease; a Cooling Cap to reduce hair loss during treatment; and a Faxitron X-Ray Machine that enables microscopic clarity during biopsies.
This is just a taster of what we’ve achieved and now that the medical equipment offers women unrivalled treatment, we now want to raise a further £1 million to introduce an environment that goes beyond what the NHS is able to fund.
We’re hoping to fund a new lounge, giving patients and their families a comfortable place to go when at the hospital. This will also give the nurses a more relaxing environment when discussing diagnosis and treatments. We also want to introduce a not-for-profit hair salon at the hospital so that cancer patients can get the TLC they need in a private and comforting salon. Whether it’s a simple wash and blow dry or a wig fitting, we think that everyone should be able to access this at the hospital. The same goes for women that have undergone a mastectomy; we want them to access bra-fitting service whilst at the hospital.
The £1 Million Appeal is all about giving Breast Cancer sufferers a new environment where they feel safe, secure and comfortable during treatment. As well as a new lounge, hair salon and bra-fitting service, we also want a number of beauty treatments available on site, including permanent tattooing to help with the effects of hair loss. All of this comes in addition to providing another additional Mobile Mammogram Trailer to continue screening across the Midlands.
The £1 Million Appeal launched last October and has already raised thousands of pounds towards the cause. We want to continue this fantastic work so we’re urging people across the region to get involved by texting ‘LFBC12’ to 70070 to donate £5. You can also fundraise in your own way; running for charity, hosting a quiz night, jumping out of a plane, putting on a coffee morning with friends… there are so many ways to raise money and we’d love you to get involved.
