Entrepreneur; recruitment expert; charity advocate; executive coach; and – now – national award finalist; there’s no stopping Rebecca Simkiss, even amidst a global pandemic. This week, the co-founder and joint managing director of SimkissGuy Recruitment is celebrating being named as one of the region’s outstanding business leaders in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
The office support and graduate recruitment specialist has spent the last 16 years working in Birmingham; nearly eight of which she has been at the helm of her own multi-award winning company. As testament to her hard-work and tenacity, Rebecca has been recognised as a finalist for ‘Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year’.
The highly-lauded Great British Entrepreneur awards celebrate the successes of the nation’s most notable businesses, highlighting the significant contribution those leading them have made on their regions. The Service Industries Entrepreneur award, in particular, is reserved for business pioneers who lead the way in their sector and exhibit industry-honed skills to innovate and offer something unique in their field.
Known for her philanthropic commitments to local causes, including her position as Vice-Chair of LoveBrum and her role as a co-founder of West Midlands Women’s Voice, Rebecca has established her name as both an inspiring business woman and a beacon for change in the region. Passionate about her trade, Rebecca has built her own reputation – as well as that of her business – to become one of the most well-respected authorities on recruitment solutions in the West Midlands.
Speaking about the recognition by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Rebecca commented:
“To be named alongside so many that I respect and admire is an honour and I’m truly grateful to be included. There’s so much to be said about the power of positivity and these awards embody the spirit of what, for me, being an entrepreneur is about: celebrating the wins along the way.
“As a woman born and bred in the Midlands, it fills me with huge pride to see all these fantastic businesses from across the region supporting and commending each other. Like many, we are weathering the storm of the recent months, so to find out that I was a finalist was a huge lift and a timely reminder of what I and the SimkissGuy Recruitment team work so hard to achieve.”
Taking place in a virtual ceremony on 23 September, the Great British Entrepreneur Awards will crown one finalist as 2020 Midlands Entrepreneur of the Year. The winner will then go on to be judged against those from the other regions, with one taking home the title of the Great British Entrepreneur of the Year. The finalists will be scored by an impressive panel of judges, including Starling Bank’s Anne Boden MBE; designer and retailer, Cath Kidston MBE; and fellow Midlands entrepreneurs and former winners Alan and Juliet Barratt of Grenade, to name a few.
Rebecca is hopeful that SimkissGuy Recruitment’s successes so far, coupled with her dedication to mentoring, professional development, and volunteering will see her named the winner in her category and make her team proud.
“I wholeheartedly believe that SimkissGuy Recruitment would not have the reputation it does across the region, were it not for our unique approach to business. In an industry that is seen as cut-throat, we are not afraid to stand alone, to be different, and to use our network and connections for the greater good and development of the region. I greatly look forward to the Great British Entrepreneur Awards ceremony and wish all my fellow finalists the best of luck,” concluded Rebecca.
