The team at Malmaison Birmingham is celebrating a record summer, after seeing business boom by more than £230,000. Between July and September the boutique hotel has seen an increase in custom across its bedrooms, spa, bar and restaurant and has now recruited a new Sales Manager to continue this success.
Laura Davis, 25, has joined the Malmaison team with over six years’ experience in the industry. She joins from IHG, where she was Midlands Cluster Sales Manager, with a remit to explore new business opportunities whilst also looking after existing clients.
“I’m so excited to join the Malmaison team; not only is it a well-respected brand but it is one of the city’s strongest destinations for work, rest and play. The arrival of Damian [Goom – General Manager] has marked a real turnaround in the hotel and that has been seen in the summer’s financial figures. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Birmingham scene better and helping to bring new business through the hotel doors,” said Laura upon her arrival.
The July to September period has been positive for Malmaison, with increased in-house activity to negate the closure of The Mailbox. In addition to on-going meetings and conference business, private events have also increased, including birthday celebrations, weddings and parties. Favourable British weather has also seen the bar introduce an alfresco dining and drinking terrace, making the most of its prime location at the front of The Mailbox. Added to this, the hotel was recently awarded 5 stars by the Environmental Health Officer, after improving its previous zero rating.
Speaking about the EHO re-inspection, Malmaison’s General Manager Damian Goom, said:
“It’s great that the Bar and Brasserie have regained the five star rating they deserve. We were alongside a host of establishments across the city that needed to make improvements earlier this year and this was my priority when I joined the hotel back in March. The city, as a whole, suffers from pest problems so it’s important that we’re on top of this to ensure that our standards are up to scratch and our customers are in the safest environment. Following the zero rating we have been busy pest-proofing the hotel, including the introduction of a new cleaning regime, daily internal inspections and daily visits from Midlands Pest Control.
“Presenting the financial figures to the team was a real honour as they’ve worked hard over the past three months to get Malmaison back to its best. The Summer Classics menu has been a big hit in the Brasserie and initiatives like ‘Bubble Time’ and ‘Thank Mal It’s Friday’ has re-instated the Bar’s position within the city’s nighttime offering. We have also seen events bookings increase, as well as increased footfall through our spa and Starbucks franchise, which celebrated its first birthday earlier this month. City-wide events like Autumn Fair and cricket at Edgbaston Stadium have also helped us achieve these record numbers. I am delighted,” Damian concluded.
Malmaison continues its internal improvements, alongside the on-going redevelopment of The Mailbox. Future activity includes bedroom makeovers, improved technology and a new-look Bar and Brasserie.
