From lipsticks to lip fillers; injectables to IV drips; facelifts to fat freezing: the beauty industry in the UK has grown exponentially in recent years, worth over £17billion to the UK economy. With the accelerated development of the sector being attributed in part to technological advances and cutting-edge treatments, one of the industry trailblazers that is at the forefront of this boom is the multi-award-winning and multi-million-pound-generating medical spa group, EF MEDISPA.
Launching its first franchise outside of London in Bristol last year, the clinic has been embraced by the city with the all-female team showing that beauty, brains, and business acumen go hand-in-hand.
Led by former business analyst Elena Hunt, EF MEDISPA Bristol has enjoyed tremendous success since opening in July 2016. Elena set up the spa when she spotted a gap in the region’s aesthetics market. As a business-minded individual and a beauty-product customer, Elena decided to take matters into her own hands.
Working closely with the clinics in the capital, Elena brought the luxury of London to Bristol and established the group’s first franchise on Whiteladies Road. Behind the beautiful Bath stone exterior now lies a technological beauty haven, combining cutting edge treatments with added lifestyle elements such as wellness services, fitness classes, a juice bar and the city’s first Drip and Chill Lounge.
Speaking about her decision to take the plunge, Elena said:
“I’ve lived in the South West for nine years and I was one of the many people who travelled to London for treatments. At first, I assumed that this was because there wasn’t a demand for it in Bristol. However, when I researched this further, it was clear that Bristolians did want these services – so much so that they were also willing to travel to London to have them. That’s why I decided to be the change and make EF MEDISPA the luxury beauty destination in Bristol.”
Since opening, the team at EF MEDISPA Bristol has grown from six to nine staff members. Made up of two front-of-house staff, two aesthetic therapists, two treatment coordinators, a nurse-subscriber, and a marketing executive, the team is led by Elena to deliver their selection of acclaimed therapies.
The Bristol clinic also reflects its London branches, with its all-female team. EF MEDISPA founder, Esther Fieldgrass, still heads the group as managing director, and with four decades of experience, she is today recognised as a pioneer in the aesthetics industry. The group is therefore no stranger to the concept of strong female leadership and Elena is proud to continue this trend as a woman in power.
“It’s not always easy, as the beauty market is competitive; however, if you believe that your business can stand ahead of the crowd and you aren’t afraid to take the risks that set it apart, there is every reason why, with hard work, you will succeed. A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there. Throw yourself into the challenge and embrace the hard times. I have found myself working harder than ever before. However, it doesn’t feel like I chore because the feeling of seeing another satisfied customer never gets old,” concluded Elena.
