pr internship birmingham

EAST VILLAGE. is dedicated to keeping our business both accessible and diverse, which is why we ensure that PR internships and careers opportunities are offered as often as possible, and in various formats. From young people starting to explore potential careers and students searching for internship opportunities, to job seekers transferring their skills to new roles and experienced professionals returning to the industry later in life, we want to ensure that – as a business – we are actively welcoming talent to EAST VILLAGE. and the wider PR industry.

Our flexible working approach means that we’re well-placed to create and offer PR internships and career opportunities to people who may not, traditionally, have felt the industry was for them. In addition, we remain dedicated to promoting the PR industry to young people and offering opportunities that support them in their first steps.

Everything that we do has our TeamEV Charter in mind – the blueprint for how we act as a business and the positive policies that hold us to account. Through our Grow Your Own initiative, we want to ensure that we’re making PR accessible to people of any age, gender, sexual preference, ethnicity, cultural belief and background. We want to remove as many barriers to entry as possible when it comes to PR internships and career opportunities, and ensure that we offer both work experience and permanent roles to a wide talent pool. This includes removing minimum qualification requirements, offering flexible roles to fit in with parental and caring responsibilities, making considerations for physical and learning challenges, and accepting applicants with a previous criminal history.

We believe that opportunities should be there for everyone and we want to lead the way when it comes to PR being a much more responsible, diverse and accessible industry.

Grow Your Own has three key areas: LEARN, GROW and DEVELOP…

Grow Your Own: LEARN

Our team delivers presentations, workshops and one-to-ones for school children, college/university students and job seekers. In 2021, we will host three online/in person workshops that will be free for anyone to attend and learn more about the PR industry.

If you would like to speak to us about delivering a presentation for you, get in touch.

Grow Your Own: GROW

We are always happy to receive applications for PR internships and career opportunities. We offer two and four-week positions with us, providing aspiring PR pros with the chance to work within an award-winning agency.

During your work experience, you will be part of TeamEV, understand how EAST VILLAGE. runs, be introduced to our client strategy and delivery, and get the chance to work hands on with us. If you thought you’d just be photocopying and researching things… you’re wrong! We’re throwing you right in and giving you the real insight to working in PR; from team brainstorms and new business proposals, to using media databases, creating campaign evaluations, and delivering media outreach. You’ll also support with social media ideas and content creation, planning and attending events (when Covid-19 allows, of course), and some wider creative marketing ideas too.

Benefits to the EV PR internships placements include:

  • Access to a company laptop and phone for the duration of your time with us
  • A dedicated TeamEV ‘Buddy’ as your first port of call for any questions, issues and challenges
  • Flexible working, including home/hybrid working and flexi hours
  • A tick list of roles and responsibilities that you will learn during your two/four weeks
  • Team socials, both online and in person (Covid-19 dependent, of course)

Our two and four week PR internship placements include a one-off PR Bursary to help cover expenses and additional learning. To apply, please get in touch and tell us why TeamEV is the agency for you.

Grow Your Own: DEVELOP

At the heart of the Grow Your Own initiative is a brand new opportunity, which we’re running in partnership with Creative Alliance and the Government’s Kickstart scheme.

Targeted at 18-25 year olds who are currently unemployed and on Universal Credit, you have the chance to apply for a six-month role with us (please check if we have a role available over on our ‘Joining TeamEV’ page). If you’re interested, ask your job coach at your local DWP Job Centre to look for the ‘EAST VILLAGE. PR’ position, as we can only accept applications referred to us through Job Centres.

Following an open application process, delivered alongside the Department for Work and Pensions, we are looking to open up the PR industry and make it more inclusive than it is today. We aim to make the application process as simple and transparent as possible, with a host off TeamEV perks boosting the Kickstarter scheme basics.

The successful applicant(s) will join TeamEV in this brand new role and at the beginning of your employment, we will sit down and create an #iGotThis action plan for you (the TeamEV version of an appraisal). In this, we’ll set some objectives that will help you in your future career progression and map out the training that you’ll be able to do with Creative Alliance. You’ll then be given roles and responsibilities that help build your PR expertise, as well as the chance to take part in additional training along the way.

Our hope is that a permanent role will be available for you to apply for at the end of your six months with us, but we will also equip you with employability skills; from CV workshops to mock interviews. Should you choose not to work with EAST VILLAGE. beyond your initial six month role, we’ll also provide a reference for your future job search.

As part of your employment with EAST VILLAGE. You will receive:

  • A laptop, which is yours to keep even after your time with us
  • Access to an optional company mobile phone and, if needed, internet connection to enable you to work from home
  • Flexible working, including home/hybrid working and flexi hours
  • Dedicated line manager, who can be your mentor post-placement if you desire
  • A TeamEV ‘Buddy’ to help you find your feet and get the most out of working with us
  • A six-month action plan to ensure that you get the best possible learning during your time with us
  • Opportunities for additional training and development along the way, including a 60-hour training course with Creative Alliance
  • Access to therapy and counselling through Living Well UK (subject to being registered with a GP in Birmingham or Solihull)
  • Team socials, both online and in person (Covid-19 dependent, of course)
  • A host of ‘next steps’ activity including a CV workshop with a recruitment agency, a mock interview to prepare you for the working world, 1-2-1s within the team, and a chance to speak to other PR pros who will give you their take on working in the industry
  • A reference for you to add to your CV
  • The chance to apply for any job vacancies within TeamEV
