GLENGOYNE BRINGS A TASTE OF SCOTTISH TRADITION TO THE MIDLANDS IN BURNS NIGHT CELEBRATION

One of the world’s most respected Scottish independent distilleries, Glengoyne Whisky, has teamed up with city centre hotspot, Hotel Du Vin, to bring the brands’ Scottish heritage to the Midlands as part of the annual Burns Night celebrations. An exquisite four-course supper will be partnered with drams from the Glengoyne repertoire; including cocktail creations and classic whisky serves.

On Thursday 25 January, guests will be invited to celebrate the legendary Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns with a four-course feast at Hotel Du Vin, led by Glengoyne International Brand Ambassador Gordon Dundas. Diners will enjoy a traditional Burns Night supper with all the trimmings alongside a generous tour of delights from Glengoyne’s multi award winning collection of bold, complex whiskies, which will be expertly interpreted by Gordon.

Of course, the night would not be complete without the famous address to the haggis, as well as sharing some of the Bard’s wisdom throughout the evening.

Tony Elvin, General Manager, Hotel du Vin Birmingham said:

“We are huge Glengoyne fans here at HdV so we’re very excited for this special Burns Night event.  We have a fantastic reputation for themed dining events and this will be right up there with the best of them.  Wonderful whisky with a perfectly paired Hotel du Vin banquet.  What’s not to be excited about!?”

For over 200 years, Glengoyne Whisky has been crafting single malts from its Highland home, which is just a short drive from Glasgow. Purchased by Ian Macleod Distillers in April 2003. The distillery is famous for its patience, Glengoyne’s stills are Scotland’s slowest, the gentlest of journeys creating a unique flavour.  Ensuring, the taste of Glengoyne is non-negotiable.

At The Drinks Business Green Awards at The Ivy, London on 20th November 2017, Glengoyne Distillery was given the Amorim Sustainability Award for Spirits. The outstanding achievement recognises Glengoyne’s efficient and sustainable practices which reflect the distillery’s drive to improve upon its environmental impact.

Glengoyne boasts a plethora of whiskies from single aged statement malts, to several special bottlings.  On the evening, Glengoyne will be showcasing five single malts from their portfolio.     Ranging from the nutty soft oak of the 10-Year-Old, the perfectly balanced 18-Year-Old, through to the Christmas cake character of the 21-Year-Old.

Claire Sumner-Hughes from Glengoyne, said:

“This event really is a unique taste of Scottish life – bringing together two of its most popular things; whisky and Robert Burns! I am delighted to be working with Hotel du Vin to deliver this special supper, with four courses perfectly paired with our stunning whiskies… the evening will not disappoint!

“Over the past five years there has been a dramatic change in the perception of whisky, and it’s appealing to more people than ever before.  Due to the growing cocktail culture and the notion that there is no ‘right’ way to drink it, whisky is becoming more and more attractive to a wider audience.  With that in mind, this dinner has been designed for both whisky connoisseurs and novices alike, giving all guests the chance to experience new ways of enjoying whisky with food!”

As it names suggests, Burns Night is a celebration of the life and poetry of Scottish poet, Robert Burns. The supper is a way to remember the life of the 18th century Bard and falls on his birthday – 25 January. The tradition started a few years after the poet’s death in 1796, when his friends wanted to commemorate his career. Now, more than two centuries later, Burns Night is recognised worldwide, and is celebrated with annual events and dinners taking place all over the country.

The Burns Night supper with Glengoyne is taking place at Hotel Du Vin at 7pm on Thursday 25 January. Tickets cost £69 and include a four-course meal plus five whisky expressions from the Glengoyne range, as well as some extra Burns Night inspired surprises.
