FESTIVAL SERVES UP GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR WINE LOVERS

An award-winning wine is taking centre stage at this year’s Birmingham Wine Weekend, with the launch of a golden ticket opportunity that will give wristband wearers the chance to sample one of Italy’s finest. The first 100/100 point wine since 1985, Sassicaia 2016 is a much-loved vintage and a limited amount of samples will be served up at the city centre festival, which is taking place from 24-26 April 2020.

Recognised as Italy’s most famous wine, Sassicaia 2016 is one of the original ‘Super Tuscans’ and retails for a whopping £350+ per bottle online. Birmingham Wine Weekend has partnered with award-winning Loki Wine to serve up a limited number of glasses during the festival, and every wristband buyer will be entered into the draw to win.

“We wanted to do something exciting to mark Birmingham Wine Weekend’s return to the city for the third year running so we’ve partnered Loki Wine to provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Sassicaia 2016 is thought of as one of the best Italian wines ever produced, which is demonstrated in its rare 100/100 point rating alone!

“Birmingham Wine Weekend is all about discovery; whether you’re new to wine or consider yourself an expert, and that’s why we’ve launched this tasting opportunity as a prize draw that gives everyone an equal chance of winning a golden ticket!”

Chosen at random, the lucky winners will be able to trade in their golden tickets during the festival weekend and receive a glass of Sassicaia 2016 at Loki Wine in Great Western Arcade. Owner, Phil Innes, adds:

“We’re truly excited to be a part of Birmingham Wine Weekend for the third year running; not only is it a time where we can meet a variety of wine lovers but, this year, we’re able to bring something unique to the city and provide attendees with the chance of trying a one of a kind, notorious wine.

“The Sassicaia 2016 has unrivalled consistency of both style and quality, with impressively restrained alcohol levels across vintages. However, it’s tremendously elegant on the palate too, but with latent power – building in the mouth, with layers of rich, dark fruit. It’s a real iron fist in a velvet glove… one to remember!”

Birmingham Wine Weekend takes place 24-26 April 2020, with venues across the city taking part in the three-day event. The festival hub returns to Hotel du Vin, along with participating venues including Arch 13, Gaucho, Harvey Nichols, Malmaison, and Opus. During the festival, wristband wearers can try premium glasses of wine for just £4, as well as £4 wine cocktails, and £6 wine and food pairing options; all hand-selected by each venue. In addition to a series of exclusive events.

Wristbands are on sale now, priced at just £10 (plus booking fee), and can be purchased online: www.birminghamwineweekend.co.uk
