EV. Loves… a captivating read

Here at EV., we love to make the best out of a bad situation; whether it’s catching up on our favourite Netflix shows, attending tons of webinars, or reading that book we promised ourselves we’d read, we are in our stride with keeping busy and creative during Covid-19.

When I made a New Year’s resolution this year, I set a target to read 40 books and I didn’t think this would ever seem as easy as it does now. But as we are now encouraged to stay at home there seems nothing better than getting lost in a brilliant, captivating read to pass the time.

Whether you’re dusting off the bookshelf or reaching for your Kindle there has never been a better time to curl up and indulge in a new read. For me, there is nothing better than downloading a book on my iPad, don’t get me wrong I do often miss the feeling of holding a new book, but the simplicity and ease of downloading books straight into my iBooks is a firm favourite of mine.

What’s better is that the likes of iBooks and Amazon has a few tools to make reading a little easier for everyone. iBooks has always had a ‘free book of the week’, but since the pandemic has struck, they have now ensured that there is something for everyone and have recently included ‘kids’ favourites’, ‘classics’ and ‘first in a series’ for free also. Thus, allowing all to enjoy a brand-new read at no cost.

Amazon also has a free trial for audiobooks, a great choice for those who can’t sit still and are looking for entertainment whilst busy. Not only this, but Amazon have also enabled a ‘lend’ feature where you and your friends can swap books that you own, perfect for when recommending a great read.

Reading 40 books has never seemed easier, and although I have currently only read nine, I do have 89 books sat in my Goodreads ‘Want to Read’, so I don’t think I’ll have a problem reaching my target anytime soon.

My most recent read is ‘Reputation’ by Sara Shepard, the author of Pretty Little Liars (which is one of my ultimate fave TV series!). The chick-lit follows a hacking scandal which sees the leak of 40,000 University emails and is narrated by multiple points of view. The story is full of twists, turns, and shocking reveals all whilst showcasing hidden secrets—and how far people will go to keep them hidden, definitely one I recommend to anyone who loves a good YA novel.
