They say ‘fortune favours the brave’ and that certainly rings true for Lower Precinct, who celebrated Chinese New Year in style last Saturday. The Coventry shopping centre welcomed thousands of shoppers to join them in celebrating the start of the ‘Year of the Rooster’ with a day jam-packed with free activity for all the family to enjoy.
Last Saturday 4 February, Lower Precinct welcomed thousands of people into the centre for their annual Chinese New Year Celebrations. With delicious food, jaw-dropping entertainment, and lots of free activities to get stuck in to, the event was one not to be missed! The centrepiece of the event was two performances by acclaimed dance group Choy Lee Fut, who will have performed both traditional lion and dragon dances. With over 30 years’ experience, Choy Lee Fut are without doubt one of the leading Chinese performance groups in the UK, specialising in Lion and Dragon dances, as well as Kung Fu and Chinese Drumming routines.
There was also a whole host of activities on offer during the event to keep the kids happy whilst out shopping. A face painter was on hand to transform little ones into animals from the zodiac calendar as well as Coventry University’s Chinese Culture Society encouraging children to get creative, with traditional Chinese cloth painting and lantern decorating. Wing Wah Restaurant, Dumpling King and Bubble Boba added to the festivities with great tastes and scents, serving up top dishes from their pop-up stalls, giving shoppers the chance to sample some authentic Chinese dishes.
Chinese New Year celebrations aim to bring good fortune, so the LP team were on hand to give out free fortune cookies, balloons for little ones as well as a traditional Red Envelope Giveaway which featured a host of prizes and discounts from retailers including Schuh, Two Seasons, New Look, Café Nero, Game, Sally, Co-op Travel and ibrow bar.
Centre Manger, Nicola Cormell comments:
“We are absolutely thrilled that so many people had the chance to come down to the centre and celebrate Chinese New Year with us at Lower Precinct. The annual celebration is becoming recognised in Coventry as the place to go to see in the Chinese New Year. We hope to continue to make the celebration a success in the city and work to make next year bigger and better than ever!”
