With temperatures soaring to 30 degrees later this week, it’s safe to say that summer is here and Lower Precinct Shopping Centre is celebrating with a host of free events for families. The events are being held as part of the shopping centre’s ‘Celebrate Summer’ campaign, which will be marked by a fresh new website (lowerprecinct.com) and host of offers and competitions.
Based in Coventry City Centre, Lower Precinct has a selection of events taking place, starting with one that will help shoppers get into the swing of summer. On Saturday 11 July, from 10am-5.30pm, the Wimbledon Weekender will invite shoppers, families and residents alike to showcase their tennis skills. Falling on the same weekend as the Wimbledon Finals, our Pocket Park will be transformed into a mini Centre Court, with tennis and badminton available to try, as well as table tennis on the ground floor. There will also be a small selection food vendors selling summer favourites, as well as a chance to win prizes from The Entertainer with an exclusive competition.
‘School’s out for summer’ on Saturday 25 July when Lower Precinct gets the holiday season off to a great start with a selection of indoor games. Bring the family to the Lower Ground floor to try their hand at football, basketball, golf, and much more. They can also showcase their skills against a giant furry mascot who will make an appearance on the day, as well as help fundraise for local charity Zoe’s Place.
The following weekend will see LP’s Summer Fair take place, with craft, food and drink sellers in attendance all day from 9am-5.30pm on Saturday 1 August. Building on Lower Precinct’s craft fair in 2014, this will be a celebration of local businesses, with gifts, accessories, food, drink, and more on sale. It’s a chance for Coventry shoppers to buy and see something new, whilst also shopping in their favourite Lower Precinct stores.
The Entertainer is holding the final event of the summer, on Wednesday 26 August from 11am-3pm. The toy store will welcome Pikachu; the short, chubby rodent Pokémon. Covered in yellow fur with long and pointed ears, Pikachu is Pokémon’s most famous character and will be in Coventry for a special visit to mark the end of the summer holidays.
Whatever the weather, summer at Lower Precinct is set to be a scorcher, giving parents the chance to entertain the kids for free and get their hands on unique produce at the summer fair.
A full list of events is on lowerprecinct.com, including a Rugby World Cup screening, Student Shopping event, and a jam-packed Christmas programme.
